Birth of the Wallace Wanderers

One sunny Saturday afternoon in July 1999, a group of rugby supporters were sitting on a house-boat on the River Thames, wondering how they were going to spend the winter, with no London Scottish to support. They agreed that they wished to continue watching top-class rugby. But they did not believe that they would feel comfortable, watching the new "super-club" which had been formed by 'merging' the remnants of London Scottish and Richmond with London Irish, even though London Irish have some supporters with an excellent sense of humour and an amusing 'unofficial' website. Had the name of the new club had a reflection of the historic roots of the other clubs, they may have felt differently.

They therefore decided that they would support 'rugby', and not join a specific professional club. They would be prepared to pay a subscription to the old, amateur London Scottish Football Club. This would give them the freedom (a cry close to a Wallace's heart!) to watch whichever games they wished, but they would aim, when possible, to support ex-London Scottish players, whoever they were playing for (thankfully none have gone to 'Quins!). Or, failing that, teams with Scotland international players.

The Wallace Wanderers were born!
